    IDSA and the Indian Pugwash Society organised a talk by Ambassador Bhaswati Mukherjee on ‘Emerging Challenges to Chemical Weapons Regime’ on September 12, 2013. Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta chaired the lecture. Ambassador Mukherjee is a former Permanent Representative of India to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Mr Bhattacharyya’s talk was based on a four-month assignment he undertook inside the jungles of Myanmar. During his trek, he met and interviewed a number of North-East insurgent groups, who have set up bases in that country and their leaders.

    Dean, Georgetown University, Qatar, Dr Gerd Nonneman, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Brendan Hill, along with the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Amol Dani, called on Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta and discussed the proposals of academic cooperation between the two institutes. Gulf and Non-traditional security were identified as the two topics for academic research and co-operation. Dr Gupta handed over a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for co-operation. Research Fellows, IDSA, Ms Shebonti Ray Dadwal and Dr Meena Singh Roy were also present during the discussion.
