    SHRI MOHAN SINGH:

    Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

    (a) whether the Foreign Minister of India had meaningful talks with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan during her visit to India in order to improve bilateral relations;
    (b) whether this will help favourable Indo-Pak relations;
    (c) whether Government of Pakistan is committed to curb the activities of the terrorist organizations taking shelter at Indo-Pak border; and
    (d) if so, the promise made by the Pakistan’s Foreign Minister?

    STATEMENT REFFERED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (D) OF RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.246 REGARDING "VISIT OF PAKISTAN’S FOREIGN MINISTER" FOR ANSWER ON 18.08.2011

    External Affairs Minister met the Foreign Minister of Pakistan in New Delhi on July 27, 2011. The Ministers reviewed the status of bilateral relations, expressed satisfaction on the holding of various Secretary level meetings and affirmed the importance of carrying forward the dialogue process with a view to resolving peacefully all outstanding issues. The Ministers agreed that terrorism poses a continuing threat to peace and security and reiterated the firm and undiluted commitment of the two countries to fight and eliminate this scourge in all its forms and manifestations. On terrorism, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan's commitment to fight terrorism should not be doubted and it was not Pakistan’s policy to support terrorism in any country. She further stated that Pakistan was ready to have a dialogue with India on the issue and there was a need for cooperation to combat terrorism. Both sides agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation on counter-terrorism including among relevant departments as well as agencies to bring those responsible for terror crimes to justice.
