Q.*580 Taliban Network In Afghanistan

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has evaluated the impact on the security of the country due to the reported expansion of the Taliban network in Afghanistan;
(b) if so, the outcome thereof; and
(c) the measures taken by the Government to address the issue?

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI S. M. KRISHNA)

(a) to (c) Government continuously evaluates all developments in the region including the expansion of terrorist and extremist groups and beyond that impact India’s security. Government is vigilant in regard to all threats to India’s security and takes necessary measures to counter such threats.

Government has also shared with the international community its concern regarding the resurgence of terrorist and extremist elements in Afghanistan and the support that they continue to receive from beyond that country’s borders. India has emphasized that it is essential that the international community shows unwavering commitment in resolutely opposing, resisting and overcoming terrorism and those who nurture and give sanctuary to terrorists and extremist elements.
