Q. 182 Talks on Sir Creek Maritime boundary

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to satate :-

(a) whether there was any significant progress in the talks held between India and Pakistan on Sir Creek Maritime Boundary;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER: THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

(a) to (c) Under the resumed dialogue process between India and Pakistan, talks on Sir Creek issue were held in New Delhi on June 18-19, 2012. The talks were held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere. The two sides discussed the land boundary in the Sir Creek area and also delimitation of International Maritime Boundary between India and Pakistan. The discussions have contributed to better understanding of each other’s positions. Both sides reiterated their desire to find an amicable solution of the Sir Creek issue through sustained and result oriented dialogue. They agreed to hold the next round of the talks on Sir Creek issue in Pakistan at mutually convenient dates, to be determined through diplomatic channels.
