    SHRI BADRI RAM JAKHAR:

    Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

    (a) whether the Government is protecting and preserving the non-muslim shrines in Pakistan and muslim shrines in India as per the terms of the Pant-Mirza Agreement of 1955;
    (b) if so, the details thereof and the number of religious places preserved during the last three years and the current year;
    (c) whether the Government proposes to bring any bill in this regard; and
    (d) if so, the time by which it is likely to be brought?

    ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

    (a) & (b) Under the bilateral Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines signed in September 1974 by India and Pakistan, it is the obligation of the concerned country to make every effort to ensure that the places of worship in the agreed list of shrines under the Protocol are properly maintained and their sanctity preserved.

    (c) & (d) No, does not arise.
