    SHRI D.B. CHANDRE GOWDA:

    Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

    (a) whether the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) Chairman admitted that the organisation was backed by Pakistani fundamentalists;
    (b) if so, the revelations made by the ULFA Chairman regarding the direct and indirect support his organisation has got from Pakistan;
    (c) whether during discussions with Pakistani Foreign Minister, this point was raised by the Government;
    (d) if so, the details thereof; and
    (e) if not, the reasons therefor?

    ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

    (a) & (b) According to media reports, Arabinda Rajkhowa and Sashadhar Choudhury of the ULFA during press interactions stated that ULFA had earlier received support from Pakistan-based organisations, including the ISI. During these press interactions, Sashadhar Choudhury is also reported to have admitted that the ULFA received aid in the form of arms and ammunition from Pakistan-based organisation.

    (c) to (e) Government has consistently conveyed to Pakistan that it must fulfill its solemn commitment of not allowing territory under its control to be used for aiding and abetting of terrorist activity directed against India. During the meeting of External Affairs Minister with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan in New Delhi on July 27, 2011, we forcefully conveyed our terrorism-related concerns to Pakistan.
