ANSWER: THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

    (a) to (c) It is the policy of the Government to conclude Extradition Treaties with as many countries as possible to ensure availability of fugitive criminals for trial. Negotiations are held through diplomatic channels on the basis of drafts proposed by either side. A draft Extradition Treaty has already been proposed to the Bangladesh for their consideration. The matter has also been taken up at the recent bilateral meetings including the first meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission at the level of Foreign Minister in May 2012 in New Delhi and the second annual Home Minister’s level consultations held in February 2012 in New Delhi.
