Research Fellow, Manohar Parrikar IDSA, Dr Adil Rasheed’s article ‘Why Iran will still not build a nuke’ has been published in First Post on 08 July 2025.
The article proposes that Iran is fully aware that even a retaliatory nuclear strike on Israel could endanger the holy city of Jerusalem, the Palestinian population, and even the Shia population in southern Lebanon, after which even the Muslim world would support obliterating the nation of Iran. Thus, the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) deterrence doctrine won’t work in this instance.
