Under the Space-Based Surveillance-3 (SBS-3) programme, India will launch a constellation of 52 satellites in the next five years to enhance the surveillance capabilities of the armed forces. Nearly half of these satellites are expected to be developed by private companies, a milestone for India’s space sector. The constellation is expected to be operational by the end of 2026, says Gp Capt Lele.
