President Nasheed stated that the judiciary will remain an independent institution and that no interference in its activities would be tolerated. He added that the police could not investigate judges for reasons of violation of ethical standards but that the Judicial Service Commission would be responsible for holding the judges accountable1.

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed meanwhile expressed gratitude towards Sri Lankan nationals working in the country. He also supported the efforts of the Rajapakse government in rooting out terrorism2.
