Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the assessment of the usage of Indian funds by the Sri Lankan Government for the purposes of building houses for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) during the visit of the Secretary of External Affairs;
(b) whether the Indian Government is satisfied with the steps taken by the Sri Lankan Government for rehabilitation of the IDPs;
(c) whether the Sri Lankan Government has provided an assurance to the Indian Government on the implementation of 13th Amendment; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SMT. PRENEET KAUR)
(a) to (d) Government of India has taken up a pilot project for the construction of houses in Northern Sri Lanka for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Sri Lanka has committed to resettle all the IDPs by the end of this year.
India has reiterated the need for starting a meaningful and structured dialogue with the Tamil parties and other stakeholders building upon the 13th Amendment for a lasting political settlement. The President of Sri Lanka, during his visit to India in June indicated his determination to evolve a political settlement acceptable to all communities.
