    Mr. Rana Banerji heads the Task Force on Intelligence Reforms at IDSA.

    Mr. Banerji joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1972. During his 37-year career, he held important positions in the state of Assam, in the central government in Delhi, as well as in Indian missions abroad. He retired in October 2009 as Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. During his stint in the central government, Mr. Banerji dealt with security and intelligence-related issues impinging on National Security Policy formulation, with focused expertise on the South Asian region.

    Mr. Banerji has a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s Degree in Political Science. He has carried out studies and field work on expanding the bank network and rural credit recovery and on jhum cultivation in Northeast India. He has also delivered lectures at government training institutions like the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, and the National Police Academy, Hyderabad.

    Mr. Banerji received the Prime Minister’s Sarvottam Sewa Praman Patra in 2003.
