    According to reports, China and Indonesia concluded an anti-terrorism drill in Jinan. 1

    In another development, according to a China Daily report, Hillary Clinton’s tour of China’s neighbourhood has again stirred the South China Sea region. It is being argued that the “strategic pressure” put by the United States is not conducive for the US long term interest in the region. 2

    Meanwhile, during the ASEAN Region Forum meeting of Foreign Ministers, Beijing has asserted that dialogue is the key to the development and stability of the Asia Pacific region. 3 China’s Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi noted that Beijing will strengthen communication and cooperation with the ASEAN keeping in view long term benefits of the countries. 4

    According to reports, three Chinese fishery patrol ships got involved in verbal confrontation with the Japanese Coast Guard ships in waters near Diaoyu Islands. 5 There were also protests in Tokyo, by Chinese-Americans over the recent clashes over the Diaoyu Islands. 6 Meanwhile Beijing has also asserted that, “it does not accept the representation lodged by Tokyo over the Chinese fishery administration vessel’s recent patrol of waters off the Diaoyu Islands”. 7

    In other developments, on the domestic front, the Chinese Communist Party celebrated its 91st founding anniversary on July 1, 2012. It was announced that the membership of the party reached 82.6 million. 8
