  • Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on July 10, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram asserted that the central government would not negotiate with any militant groups unless they surrendered and laid down arms. He added that dialogues with these groups will only be held within the ambit of the Indian Constitution1. The Home Ministry had on July 7 banned the Dima Halam Daogah (J) as a terrorist organisation.

The National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) meanwhile claimed that it had received Rs. 50 lakh from the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary, ahead of the 2006 Assembly election to help the Bodo Peoples Front (BPF). The BTC Chief, Hagrama Mohilary, on his part denied the allegation2.
