In another development, according to reports, Defence Minister Shri AK Antony has emphasized the need for DPSUs to become competitive in order to remain relevant and procure orders. They have to be competitive not just with private organisations, but also with global companies. The defense minister said, “If the DPSUs want to be truly competitive, they must enhance productivity, reduce costs, increase product quality and align production processes to meet the increasing demands of the Defence Forces… The emphasis must be on working harder and more importantly, in the right direction.” Shri Antony also stressed the need for greater emphasis on transparency and probity, not only in procurement, but in every aspect of the working of the organizations under the MoD. 2
