    Reports noted that Maldives Broadcasting Commission has arranged for Maldivian broadcasters to gain technical training from Doordarshan, the larges public service broadcaster in India. A delegation from the Maldives Broadcasting Commission visited India on invitation of the Indian government and met with the heads of Doordarshan, including their Director General, Tripurari Sharan. 1

    In another development, reports noted that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Maldives and the United States, to conduct two projects worth $9.7 million in the Maldives. The MoU was signed by Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdul Azeez Yoosuf on behalf of the Maldivian government, and Acting Mission Director at the U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Todd Sorenson on behalf of the U.S. government. Abdul Azeez said that under this MoU, USAID will provide $7.2 million as technical assistance for the global climate change adaptation project, and $2.5 million as technical assistance for election preparations. 2

    In other developments, reports noted that Maldives and Thailand has commenced efforts to increase joint trade and investment to $200 million by 2018. The two countries signed a Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement which established a Joint Trade Committee on June 1st this year, during a visit by the Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. 3

    Reports noted that The President Waheed along with a business delegation made a two-day working visit to Sri Lanka. Reportedly, the objective of President Waheed's visit is to meet Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa in order to facilitate a way by which Maldives can acquire food commodities and construction stone and sand from Sri Lanka. 4
