Jordan steps up border security to prevent “infiltration” from Syria

  • According to reports, Jordanian authorities have adopted new measures to control the entry and exit of travellers across the Jordanian-Syrian border, following an increase in the influx of Syrian refuges into the country. According to relief agencies, the number of Syrians in Jordan has passed 140,000, as officials work to expand overcrowded transit facilities. 1 Government sources say that the new measures have been taken to prevent attempts at infiltration and smuggling of people and goods across the border. 2
